Sichuan Aquatic Products Bureau Chief Qing Zuping, Deputy Chief Meng Qinggang, and Director of Production Department He Chuan paid a visit to Tongwei’s Foundation Seed Farm, July, 7, and received warm welcome from Vice President of Tongwei Co., Ltd. Liu Zhiquan, and Senior Technical Consultant Wu Zongwen. Head of Sichuan Foundation Seed Farm of Leiocassis longirostris Long Xiangping, and Head of Tongwei Foundation Seed Farm Liu Congquan made presentation of the two sides’ cooperation.

Sichuan Foundation Seed Farm of Leiocassis longirostris is the key project of Ministry of Agriculture. It received check and acceptance of State-level Foundation Seed Farm Qualification in 2006, and is well equipped with industrialized breeding workshops and high standard labs, along with supporting lab facilities of items weighing, water quality analysis, fish disease detection, and bacterial culture.

Sichuan Foundation Seed Farm of Leiocassis longirostris and Tongwei Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement in 2009. The two sides has started joint breeding project of channel catfish and has transported over 75,000 kg of original U.S. species catfish to the farm. It has become the biggest breeding base of U.S. channel catfish in Western China. In addition, it is also engaged in breeding of carp, crucian carp, tilapia, Megalobrama amblycephala, Silurus meridionalis, Channel Catfish, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, and perch.

During the meeting briefing, the two sides exchanged ideas of achievements and difficulties of the cooperation. Both agreed to make concerted effort to integrate Tongwei’s industrial chain build-up with Sichuan’s aquaculture development strategic planning. Finally, both parties reached a consensus of building the joint breeding center of “Sichuan Provincial Farm of Improved Channel Catfish, Tongwei Foundation Seed Farm.”
