2008-02-04

On February 3 when the Chinese New Year was around the corner, Silang Wangdui, deputy chief of Litang County in Ganzi Zang Autonomous Prefecture, accompanied by the responsible person of the county’s Hydropower Bureau, covered a long distance to Tongwei HQ. Bringing along with the gratitude of people of Azhong Village in the county, he presented to Tongwei a silk banner which said “Giving light and love to Zang Area” as an acknowledgment for the company’s placement of its first donation project under “Siyuan-Sunshine Program”. Hu Rongzhu, deputy presient of Tongwei Group, took over the banner from Silang Wangzhui, and then started a hearty talk with the deputy county chief and the “Siyuan-Sunshine” project team members.

The project in Litang County was said to be the first Sunshine poverty alleviation project successfully built for the “Siyuan-Sunshine Program”. It included two separate PV power stations―respectively 8kw and 12kw in capacity. The construction of the power stations, which sucked respectively 600,000 and 820,000 yuan of investment, was launched in September 2007 and completed respectively on December 28, 2007 and January 6 this year. Operation of the 8kw power station resolved the problem of daily electricity and water needs of 178 residents, or 30 households, of Azhong Village, and greatly promoted the infrastructure and harmonious society buildup of the locality. The 12kw power station satisfied the electricity demand of 400 teachers and students of Chengni School and Minzong School of Litang Temple, which is reputed as the Little Potala Palace.
